An interesting documentary if you are a fan of System of a Down, but not the type of hardcore fan who already researched their plight.
Was actually quite moving by the end to see how crucial this weird metal band was to creating a monumental shift in the politics of Armenia.
Kind of weird though that guitarist Daron Malakian seemed to not want anything to do with this project…especially since it really will help spread System’s political message.

Insightful documentary on Serj Tankian's political struggles and therefore a must for any fan of him and System of a Down. It's pretty ridiculous though that the drummer and Trump supporter John Dolmayan gets to criticize his own band for being too political - and that he is still in the band, against all better judgment.

currently realizing with the help of psychiatric professionals that my interest in system of a down has always been extremely autistic. anyway serj tankian always slays insanely hard (f*ck john though, he kept it from five stars bc he makes me mad especially in the larger context of everything the rest of them have done and stand for)

Serj is the most powerful voice to ever hit metal music. I didn't think I could love him more but here we are. 🤘

I think everyone should watch this, weather you like System of Down’s music or not. The message this documentary conveys goes beyond the likes of a genre/artist, I was bawling my eyes out at the end of it, very powerful and inspiring in times like these.

Great movie about the borders and mix of politics and music, with the personal story and political involvment of Serj Tankian from System of a Down.

So much better than I expected (I can't believe the viewcount on this is barely over 100 still?)
I saw System of a Down in concert when I was a young teen, right around 9/11 - watching them describe that very specific, incendiary time period within their evolution as artists and activists was pretty wild.
This documentary is so broad in scope that a different variation of it could have gone way off the rails, but it came together solidly:
- It paints a portrait of Serj as a rock musician, poet, artist, and political activist
- (Tom Morello is in this!)
- It's also about the formation of SOAD and the evolution of their band, from Armenian school in… -

Truth To Power is a powerful documentary film by System Of A Down’s very own Serj Tankian. It walks you through the birth of the nu-metal band, lightly touches on their ups and downs, and dives deep into Serj’s relentless journey to change the world. I have been a fan of System of a Down since 2000 when I was just a Jr. High kid who wanted to listen to a new band that would immediately change my life. Their music has always been inspiring to me and was the soundtrack of my youth.
This documentary film shows that music can change the world. I got goosebumps listening to Serj discussing his life and giving us a rare look into…

A film looking at Serj Tankian's political activism by way of music, both in general and as part of System of a Down specifically. One of the downsides here was the level of context. Being somewhat (but only somewhat) familiar with System of a Down and Armenia, it was relatively easy to follow this, but there were still some spots that were tough to follow or where I feel like I was missing context.
Some of this is still incredibly powerful, like a lot of the scenes associated with the 2018 Armenian revolution and the peaceful transition of power it led to. I still wish that a lot more background and context was contained within this, as I think it would really add to the power of it. It's the background on relevant points regarding Armenia that seemed lacking to me.
