Why does my Firex I4618AC keep beeping? ›

This alarm has a low/missing battery monitor circuit which will cause the alarm to “chirp” approximately every 30-40 seconds for a minimum of seven (7) days when the battery gets low. Replace the battery when this condition occurs.

If the unit malfunctions, the red LED light will flash and the unit will chirp every 30 seconds indicating a system problem. If the red LED flashes every 60 seconds WITHOUT an audible chirp, this is the pre-warning that the battery will soon need replacing.

Some smoke alarms have a processor that retains certain error conditions, such as a weak battery. The error condition should reset when the battery is replaced, but sometimes it doesn't and must be manually reset to clear the error.

To get your smoke alarm to stop chirping if you've already changed the battery, first try draining any residual charge by holding the test button down for 15 seconds. If this doesn't solve the problem, clean the unit. A blast of compressed air will often remove the dust particles that are causing the beeps.

Those false alarms can be caused by dust, humidity, electrical malfunctions, and even spiders crawling inside smoke detectors, says Bernie Deitrick, a senior test engineer at CR.

Reset the Smoke Detector

You will need to reset some smoke detectors after replacing the battery or resetting the electrical breaker. With many detector models, you'll simply need to press and hold the test button for at least 15 seconds to reset the unit and hopefully stop the smoke detector from constantly beeping.

Hardwired smoke detectors can still beep even if there is no battery. Possibly the backup battery might have been activated and that can signal a problem. The backup battery may have run out and that is causing your hardwired smoke detector to chirp.

If a false alarm is activated, one of the following may be the reason: The sensing chamber may be dirty. Humidity, steam, or other environmental factors. An electrical condition may be causing power to the unit to be interrupted.

The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the “Test/Hush” button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately. If the smoke or debris is interfering with the sensor, the alarm will override the Hush.

If you're unable to identify any signs of fire, persistent beeping may be a false alarm triggered by dust or insect interference within your smoke detector. Dust can affect your fire alarm. If it won't stop beeping, try using a can of compressed air to get rid of any dust.

Consistent Chirping

If your carbon monoxide alarm is chirping or beeping once every 60 seconds, it may signify: Low Battery – The carbon monoxide batteries need to be replaced. End of Life Warning – Seven years after initial power up, a Kidde CO alarm will begin chirping every 30 seconds.

The red LED will indicate one of two conditions: Standby Condition: The red LED will flash every 30-40 seconds to indicate that the smoke alarm is operating properly. Alarm Condition: When the alarm senses products of combustion and goes into alarm, the red LED will flash rapidly (one flash per second).
